Saturday – A year in review & outfits

Okay, so if I’m totally honest, overall, I’ve had a pretty pooey 2011. I don’t feel like I can discuss the reasons on here right now but hopefully I’ll be able to in the future. So I’m rather looking forward to 2012 and hope that it will contain all the things that have been missing from 2011.

But I don’t want this post to be all doom and gloom. There have been some high points this year. I revisited San Francisco and Big Sur (and I’m still hungry for more!), I went to Vietnam and I had the most relaxing, peaceful, calm holiday ever to Spain. As well as my travels, we threw a massive party in the summer to celebrate my mother-in-laws 50th birthday which was a lot of fun, my sister got engaged and my sister-in-law fell pregnant with my first niece/nephew and also got engaged. I went to my first ever London Fashion Week. I went to 2 blogger meets and met lots of lovely new people (I’m definitely hoping there’ll be more of those next year!) I went on lots of lovely countryside walks and made the most of my National Trust membership. I got to spend lots of time doing fun stuff with my little sisters and had lots of meals and parties with my friends. We travelled around the country to see family a lot (sadly not always for positive reasons) and I got lots of free doughnuts :)

This is easily one of my favourite photos of the year – look how tiny I am next to that massive California redwood. I was close to tears that day as I vividly remember watching a show when I was little about redwoods and just thinking that I was never going to get to see them.

Year in outfits 2011

I hope you all have a fantastic New Year’s Eve and I hope that 2012 brings you all health, happiness and fulfils all your expectations and dreams – see you on the other side! :)

Thursday – Christmas & another engagement

I don’t want to bore you with words too much, just wanted to check in and say hi! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I had a great time :) My highlight was playing Just Dance with all my sisters on Boxing Day – got aching arms now though! My sister also got engaged on Christmas Day which is nice and my sister-in-law felt my niece/nephew kick for the first time :)

I’ve also been up to Wimbledon to visit my Uncle & his partner which was very lovely as I’ve never been to their house before. We went on a walk around the park and saw the tennis courts and ate some amazing food (because he’s a chef).

Here’s a few snippets of what we got up to:

Thursday – Motel, Eyeko, WIMH & slutty brownies

(Can I just start by saying that I did take outfit photos today but they were all blurry – need to hire a real photographer – not just a begrudging husband!)

I received a lovely package in the post today from Motel containing the nail wraps I won the other day! I can’t wait to try them out!

Motel Nail Rock nail wraps

I’ve already painted my nails for Christmas though so maybe I’ll give them a go for New Year :)

I also got my Eyeko skinny eyeliner from WIMH – it’s a pale pink/almost white colour and it’s fantastic to apply as it’s nice and soft – I hate those kohl pencils that are sharp and tough and make you feel like you’ve scratched your eyes out. I would take a photo of what it looks like on my eye but those kind of photos freak me out so I’m going to leave it!

Having gone off baking in the past few months, I’ve actually planned to make 3 things over the next 2 days. First up is slutty brownies. They are just finishing cooking in the oven as I type this and I cannot begin to explain how incredible they smell. I found the recipe from Rose‘s blog but I think the original recipe is from here. Suffice to say that they’ve been a massive hit on Pinterest/Twitter and the internet in general.

Slutty brownies basically consist of cookie dough on the bottom, brownie mix on the top with an Oreo cookie hidden in the middle. I know, right?

Why didn’t I think of this before??? I wonder what other cakey loveliness I can combine??

Fingers crossed they taste as good as they smell and look!

Tuesday – Competitions & a card from Being Little

Those of you who know me in real life will know that I have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with entering competitions. (I know, as if I didn’t already spend enough time online tweeting and blogging….)

Anyway, I’ve been having a bit of a dry spell over the past few months but seem to have hit a winning streak in the past week! I’ve had in the post a chocolate and ginger star, a huge collection of Famous by Sue Moxley make-up, all 3 seasons of True Blood on DVD, the True Blood CD soundtrack, a mug and a t-shirt that says ‘I heart Eric’ (I don’t even know who Eric is!). I’ve already given the DVDs and CD to my sister-in-law Neile, but the t-shirt and mug is free to a good home! Email me address if you’ like them :) I also received an email from the lovely Selina at Motel (and blogger) today informing me that I’d won a competition on their site to win some nail wraps! Woop! Perfect timing too because the Minx on my toes is definitely due to come off any day now!

Last week, I was on Twitter when I saw a tweet from Lyzi saying that she was making some Christmas cards and to just let her know if you want one. Obviously I jumped at the chance as Lyzi is a crafting queen and I’ve long been a fan of her work – she even inspired me to take up knitting way back in January after seeing her amazing snood that she’d made! So imagine my excitement when she messaged me to ask for my address! (I’m still hoping she’ll start selling these amazing t-shirts!)

I saw Lyzi on Friday at the Bloggers Christmas Party and thanked her for sending me a card because it’s such a lovely, sweet thing to do – all that time, effort and cost of posting for a complete stranger! The card arrived yesterday but I didn’t have time to blog as it was my Dad’s birthday so I thought I’d show you it today :)

It’s adorable and I love it!

If I was going to have a wife then I’d love for her to be just like Lyzi.

Saturday – Blogger Christmas party & gift tags

Friday night I drove to Bristol for the Bloggers Christmas party hosted by My Street Chic & Boohoo. I left work an hour early after working through my lunch and still arrived an hour late! It was pretty stressful getting there but as soon as I arrived, grabbed myself a cocktail and got chatting, all my stress melted away.

What a lovely bunch of ladies! I was wandering around by myself like a doofus when I approached Rai, Vicky & Gem and asked if I could join in the conversation as I was on my own. They were so nice and I chattered away nervously, hopefully not annoying everyone too much. Then Ceri came over and we had a little natter :) I’d like to say thank you to everyone for being so friendly and lovely and letting me join in :)

After a few minutes, we were told to make our way to the dance floor so that catwalk show could start. The models all looked lovely and had some very brave outfits and very high heels on! I took a couple of photos but they are pretty appalling!

I managed to say a quick hello to Bee (who I sat next to for the first half of the catwalk show), Lyzi (who I thanked for sending me a Christmas card in the post – which I’ll show you when it arrives) and Laura (who I think I freaked out a bit by starting the conversation with ‘So, I think I live around the corner from you…’ ).

Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to talk to Joseph, Rosie or Betty but hopefully I’ll get to see them again soon.

I have to say that although it was terribly nerve-wracking walking into a room full of people I’ve never met, it was the most fun ever and everyone was so lovely. If you ever get the chance to go to a blogger meet and you aren’t sure about it or are a bit scared, then seriously don’t worry about it, it will be fine. I would definitely recommend it to anyone :)

Yesterday I just did a bit of Christmas shopping around Bournemouth – the shops were empty! I was so surprised! Everyone must have been recovering from their Christmas parties! Then we went to Nick’s parents for dinner as his brother had come down from Derby to drop off everyone’s presents and pick up his.

Today I’ve done lots of bits and pieces including making some wonderful smelling banana cakes that I can’t wait to tuck into and I wrapped the last of our presents.

I wanted to make them all pretty this year and not the usual mangled mess that they are so they are all tied with pretty ribbon (there’s a photo here).

I was after some pretty labels to print out to stick on them and couldn’t find any until the lovely Catherine from Hepwright’s vintage store in Southampton tweeted me a fantastic link to these amazing labels!

You can find them here

I also downloaded these lovely labels which you can download here.

Wednesday – WIMH & bloggers christmas party outfit help!

My life is so dull in the winter – bring on the Spring!

I was delighted to receive an email the other day informing me that I had won a competition on the fabulous new WIMH (What’s In My Handbag) website! I was told that an Eyeko product would be dispatched to me shortly. So, today the postman bought me a skinny eyeliner pencil in a very light pink. I can’t wait to try it and will review as soon as I can.

In the mean time, you should check out WIMH, they are currently doing a daily feature on industry insiders handbag contents and today you can take a peek and see what the lovely Sarah from Temporary:Secretary carries around with her :)

This is what I wore today – very boring I know sorry

black h&m top, Hollister jeans, leopard print stylist pick flats

As you may or may not know, it’s the bloggers xmas party on Friday in Bristol – if you haven’t already got a ticket then you should definitely buy yourself one (it’s only £5!)

I’ve been trying to decide what to wear for ages and I haven’t been in the mood for shopping recently so I haven’t bought anything new. So I need your help.

Which one do you think?

My white Adam dress from the Outnet……or my black French Connection dress??

Saturday – Early Christmas & family fun

Had an early Christmas day at my nan’s house yesterday as they are going on a cruise and won’t be back until mid-Jan. It was good fun! It’s so nice to all be together. We had a big roast beef dinner followed by lots of games and laughing followed by even more food!

Thursday – A curry & Sevenly

Okay, boring outfit out the way first again. I might use a silly photo all the time.

Grey Hollister cardigan, red zara paper bag skirt, Celtic Sheepskin boots

Went for an impromptu curry at the Taj Mahal in Westbourne after work this evening with the in-laws which was very lovely :)

I wanted to talk about a company called Sevenly today. I discovered this company months ago, about a week after they launched and I didn’t blog about it on here because for some reason I blogged about it over at Four Kilos.

The idea is simple. One t-shirt design sold for just 7 days and $7 from each one goes to charity – a different charity every week. Because they’re only available for 7 days, the t-shirts are rare and you are unlikely to see anyone else wearing the same one as you.

They are doing a fantastic job and I love the way that it’s so easy to see how much money they’ve raised so clearly.

As well as their target amount of money to raise within 7 days, they also have an ‘awareness’ goal which relies on people tweeting and liking on Facebook which is a great idea.

You can visit the Sevenly website here:

This weeks t-shirt is available for 3 more days and is in support of The Girl Effect which helps to provide life development to abandoned girls in Sri Lanka.

The cost varies each week but is usually between $17 – $23. This one is $22. Shipping to the UK is $9. (Altogether this works out at £19.18 – an absolute bargain!)

Wednesday – Brownies Christmas party & presents

We had our Brownies Christmas party today! It was so much fun! We had hot chocolate with marshmallows and popcorn while watching Polar Express. Everyone went in their pyjamas and took pillows, duvets and teddies. We all got given a bar of chocolate and a shiny bell on a red ribbon :)

Black H&M top, David & Goliath doughnut pyjama bottoms

Obviously I didn’t wear my pyjamas to work though….(excuse my grumpy/tiredness in this photo)

Miss Selfridge top, Zara navy jeans, New Look spotty shoes

I got my first batch of presents yesterday and started wrapping them. I’ve gone all out and used ribbon this year too – and it’s safe to say that I’m never going back! I love it! It’s so cheap and simple and easy but looks amazing.

Monday – Legoland hotel & blog header help

Can I just get my super dull outfit out of the way very quickly?

Forever 21 scarf, black Zara top, Topshop jeans, New Look shoes

Firstly, I found out a few months ago that Legoland is opening a resort hotel next year. For some reason I was reminded of this today and checked out the website. OMG the pictures! I want to stay in that pirate room soooo bad! (The rest of the photos on the site are teeny weeny so it’s probably best if you just head on over there to look for yourself)

pirate room legoland hotel

Secondly, I spent all Saturday night working on my new blog header but I still can’t decide. Nick thinks I should have my Twitter logo on the left, followed by a row of photos that I can change with the seasons or depending on what I’ve been doing recently. My issue with my current one is that the middle picture looks a bit busy.

I would absolutely love your honest opinions about which of these headers you prefer.

What do you reckon?
